No Bake Banoffee Pie
Fantastic dessert for Valentines Day Chocolatey Gooey Caramel Banana Cake! It's time to make some special desserts for your family this coming Hearts Day on February. This is so quick to make and it's no bake.
Banoffee is a popular sweet dessert originated from Jevington, East Sussex, United Kingdom. It is composed of cream, slice Bananas, gooey caramel and most people prefer using crumbled biscuits as the pie base. And topped with Grated Chocolate!
This is my first time to make this dessert for my hubby's birthday on February 14. So its a trial error phase for me. I got this recipe from Nestle Carnation website. It looks really easy to make. Hold your horses and take note from my own experience. No bake desserts are not that easy, but you can take my tips and experience. Then, it should be just perfect. Here are the things to take note of:
Caramel - It hardens once cooled so always make an allowance. Turn off heat once it thickens or it covers the back of your spoon. Do not over cook it. Simmer and mix thoroughly approximately 3-4 minutes using a non stick pan.
Container - your molder should be round and flat at the bottom. It should be medium in size. With that in mind, you can easily mold and shape your base crust.Do not use a bowl. My regrets is using a conclave pyrex glass with round edge and too small for my ingredients. Your molder is the make or break of your Banoffee Pie. So, pick the right size and perfect molder.
Ingredients:
200 Grams Crushed Grahams
100 Grams Melted Butter (room temperature) about half of the Dairy cream
3 pcs Fresh Lakatan Bananas (sliced)
Toppings:
Finetti Chocolate Spread (optional)
Cadbury Chocolate Bar
Toffee Caramel:
50 Grams Butter
1/2 Cup brown Sugar
1/2 can condense milk
How to make Banoffe Pie:
1. Make the pie crust by mixing crushed Grahams and melted butter. And mold it into a round flat base container covering all bottom and side of container. Start with side using spoon to press like your holding a tire. Then finish the bottom part of the crust. Chill it in the freezer at least 10 minutes.
2. Once crust is hard and molded you can start trimming the uneven part on the rim. If you opt to remove it from the container, you may also do it. Slowly and carefully.
3. Line the crust with sliced Bananas and put it back in the freezer while cooking your caramel.
4. Once your caramel is cooked, spread atleast half a cup of caramel on top of the bananas. Dont put too much caramel, just spread it around evenly. So you can slice it up easily once chilled.
5. Let it cool for a few minutes and you can put on chilled whipped cream on top.
6. Top it with grated and peeled shavings of Cadburry chocolate
7. You can also use Finetti white and chocolate spread for an icing decoration on top by using the tip of a clean plastic with a small hole. Before you do it, it is always good to try it on a plate to see what style you want to create. Once you master the design you want to achieve, go ahead and decorate your pie.
It's a no bake pie and I love it.
How to Cook Tofee Caramel:
- In a non stick pan, melt butter in very low heat. Melt it for 1-2 minutes.
- Once melted, add 1 cup of sugar. Mix it until sugar is dissolved in very low heat.
- Add 1 can condensed milk
- Mix it throughly until sauce covers the back of your spatula. Approximately 3-4 minutes. Avoid overcooking it, and take note that the toffee hardens after cooking. So it should be just gooey or it becomes hard as rock to slice later. So be careful not to overcook it, so use your fair judgement that it may harden once cooled.
Be creative!
