Ultimate Tikoy Smothered in Nutella
Chinese Sticky Rice Cake or Tikoy in our local language is the traditional food you give as a gift on Chinese New Year. It's a sign of prosperity and good luck!
Today marks the Chinese New Year of the Fire Monkey 2016 and the famous Super Bowl where Lady Gaga sang the US National Anthem. Our famous Filipino Chinese Community located in Binondo Manila is definitely celebrating too for the Chinese New Year of the Fire Monkey. Binondo is the capital of the Tsinoys. Mostly pure chinese but naturally born in the Philippines.
My heritage also belongs to chinese clan - The Chu, because my grand father is a pure chinese who married a Filipino woman from Bicol. I grew up practically with chinese culture and beliefs from my Mother side. But let me not go into a long story about my heritage. Because I'm going to make the Famous Chinese Sticky Rice Cake or better known as "Tikoy". And this time, it's not your ordinary Tikoy. Yay!
Fried Tikoy Ingredients:
1 Egg beaten
Tikoy Ube flavor from Eng Bee tin (slice it into square bite size)
Butter/Cooking oil
Nutella Choco Hazelnut Spread
Finetti White Chocolate Spread
How to cook Fried Tikoy:
1. Slice Tikoy thinly into square. Use a knife brushed with oil. To avoid tikoy from sticking to knife and for easy slicing.
2. Dip slice tikoy into beaten egg. Remove excess egg drippings. It should be just enough coverred.
3. Prepare pan in oil, using the lowest heat possible. To avoid burning the egg cover. Tikoy can be cooked as quickly as 3 mins depending on the thickness.

Your children will love it!
